ABOUT JOB SHADOWING PROGRAMME(JSP)

OBJECTIVES:

The programme aims to:

(a) Expose students to the working world,

(b) Provide opportunities for students to be aware of their strengths and abilities and

(c) Inspire and inculcate positive work attitudes and values (21st century skills)

Background:

Presently, the school has an industrial work attachment program whereby selected students are attached to organisations for 3 days to two weeks. The industrial work attachment programme provides platform for selected students to experience how it is like to be in the working world. It also allows students to explore their strengths and abilities.

The Job Shadowing programme is to complement the present work attachment program by providing more opportunities for more students to experience the working world.

Brief details of the JSP:

JSP is a one to three day programme for our students in June, September and November. This programme takes into consideration the time availability of the students and the organizations.

The students who are attached to this programme are to observe the tasks, learn about the roles/responsibilities of the Job guiding officer (JSO). Students are encouraged to have conversations with JSO to consolidate their learning from the day’s experience at the end of the day. Students will learn to place themselves in the shoes of the JSO and to experience the working world. No allowance and pay will be given to the students during the JSP.

There will be a selection process for interested applicants before they are sent for the job shadowing programme. The selection of applicants will be endorsed by the JSP committee.Selected students will have to complete a participation form in which they are to indicate what they intend to learn from the programme. The applicants will also have to write reasons for his/her application.

The school seeks the support of more partners to volunteer themselves as JSOs. Each JSO will be shadowed by a minimum of 2 students and a maximum of 3 students. The JSO will make the necessary arrangement for the facilitation of the JSP.
